I have an external HDD, 2T. UsingWin. 10, I have had it for about a year and have lots of programs on it. I don't know what occurred, but when I try to open it I get this message M/:is not available. Access denied. In control panel it shows a healthy partition. Need some advice. T.I.A.

If i didn't know better i'd swear you're getting paid some sort of credit in another forum for coming up with answers to other users problems,in which case i want a cut,we can negotiate my cut later.
1-I'd boot into linux first to see if that can get to it.use a live cd if you don't have it installed already distrowatch.com
2-run crystal disk info on it to see if the drives faulty
3-remove hdd from housing & place in a known good housing or directly into pc as a slave
4-if it's under warranty take it back, this is why it pays to have more than 1 hdd or more including a free cloud storage,to create mirror data
5-run a data recovery program on it like recuva or something from easeus or minitool. My personal favorite is GetDataBack, however it's expensive & not free with limited functionality in trial
