Several months ago I made this post here....
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399716

I was making alot of coasters back and I got alot of help from some very nice people who said that the problem seemed to be the fact that my DMA was all turned off.

So I recently got around to fixing my DMA and now it's all on for both my HD's and my burner. I exptected this to fix my problem. And I think for non DL media it did. At least I've burned two DVD-R discs since I got my DMA turned on and they seemed fine. But I'm still not able to even read DVD+R DL. Actually there was one brand of DVD+R DL that my burner read and was able to burn stuff onto occassionally and that was Office Depot.

So right now I have here with me a stack of Verbatim DVD+R DL and a stack of RiDATA DVD+R DL and my BenQ 1655 won't read either of them. When I put them in the drive the light blinks for about 20-30 seconds and then nothing. When I bring up Qsuite or NeroInfoTool they both tell me that "no disc is in the drive".

After I turned my DMA on and still couldn't read DL dics, I went and upgraded my BenQ 1655's firmware to BCID, and still no change, so then because I hadn't done it in a while and probably had a few viruses and some spyware on my HD I also did a complete format of my HD and reinstalled Windows XP. And still it's the exact same result; won't read either of the types of DVD+R DL that I have. And I got both the Verbatim DVD+R DL and the RiData DVD+R DL from SuperMediaStore; the Verbatim having been recommended by the nice people here as being one of the best brands and the RiData supposedly being the brand that Office Depot uses.

Anyway, any help is much appreciated! :)

ok...... I have the same BenQ drive that you do! the 1655 and mine is a champ! I read both posts (the old one and this one) and I looked at your Nero logs. Here are my suggestions:

you installed InCD when you put Nero on your computer! When Nero has problems it's best to take out any packet writing software on the computer because Packet writing utilities such as "InCD" are notorious for interfering with burn processes, as the way it works is to continually poll the burner to check for new media. This prevents the burn application gaining exclusive access to the burner, and sense code errors will happen.

your version of Nero 6 is not the stablest version.... 6.6.0.18 is the most stablest version of Nero 6 and I would update it to that version. Here's how:

Before udating to 6.6.0.18 I would save the serial #, uninstall Nero, then use the cleaning tools : http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Clean_Tools.html
then do a registry clean up(free registry cleaner, CClean: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadpage.aspx?1) and defrag...... then reboot!

    install package one:
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539

    then install package two:
    http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Patch_for_NVE3.html
reboot and you're good to go!

you did the right thing with the DMA and your firmware is the same that I have, which is the lastest (BCID). Try these recommendations and then burn something! I swear by my BenQ 1655 and it already burned thousands of DVDs and hundreds of DL DVDs! good luck and let me know if you still have problems! welcome to afterdawn!

Thanks for the response IHoe! :)

First, apparently the DMA didn't fix my problem with non-DL dics, like I'd originally said in my first post in this thread. Last night I burned several DVD's. And I was getting coasters for 1 out of 3 of the burns. Ironically I do more successful burns with Office Depot brand DVD-R discs than I do with the much loved Taiyo Yudan brand DVD+R discs. But even with Office Depot I still get about 1 coaster for every 4-5 burns.

Also I actually don't have a trace of InCD or that unstable version of Nero on my system anymore because I went ahead and formatted my Hard drive in an attempt to get things working so I'm working with a totally clean install. But still no luck after I burned some more discs and still got the same results as always; an average 1 out of 4 are coasters with Office Depot DVD-R and Taiyo Yudan DVD+R and completely no readability of Verbatim DVD+R DL or RiData DVD+R DL :(

show me a Nero log please! I burn Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim only! No other disks get near my burner. I would never burn Office Depot disk as they are not quality disks as TY or Verbatim. I get 100% success rates out of my BenQ 1655 and I don't understand why you can't either. I want to see a Nero Log and see why you're not having the same success rate as I am.

ok........instead of using Nero.... use Ripit4Me.. it's free and here is a guide for you...... download the programs and follow the guide:
