we had my sons psp modded for him a while back and i dont know what he was doing but somehow he erased everything that was on the memory stick for the psp, including the program that they put on it when it was modded. I dont even know what program it was. Is there anyway to restore it. or is it permantly lost and i have to find someone else to mod it again. any suggr=estions would be helpfull.

    Thanks, Tina

What kind of PSP is it and what firmware does it have? If it wasn't permanently modded it has to be modded again, but that is quite easy.

Would it be worth trying to recover the data from the memory stick and using the fast recovery(assuming it has one) or would a rehack be easiest?

Format the memory stick to get a new folder structure. If it creates a folder called ISO it was permanent. I doubt it though, if it was permanent the system software version name would be different (6.35 ME).

If you format the memory stick with the PSP it should atleast create the folder structure you see when opening it with your computer. Most likely your son didn't erase the memory stick but accidentally update it to official firmware.
No, you don't need a pandora battery to mod the PSP, just use
    http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/psp/pc/index.htm
to update to 6.60 official, then use
    http://psp.dashhacks.com/2011/10/14/psp-lcfw-660-me-v16-released
the LCFW here to install the full CFW (you need both downloadable files and also the official update above). There are two good readmes included with the downloads.
