    Hi.. I have a NEC Dvd-rw 3500AG. I was gave some dvd-r's to add some dvd-files to.

The burner is about 2 years old, i havent had problems with it in the past. I may or may not of used this media before but as my dvd-rw stated that it could brun dvd-r i thought it shouldnt be a problem using the media.

I updated my firmware to the newest (i think) using VSO Inspector. I flashed the drive also set the region code because one wasnt set (in system settings/device manager).

I have a log that Nero gave me after the unsuccessful burn(s). Here it is as follows:

Im sure this error/problem has came up quite a lot on the boards im really sorry to be asking but i have spent 3hrs or so trying to work out how to get this dvd burner to burn on the media without firing out the error codes.

    All help is appreciated greatly!!

    Hi danbhn
The illegal disc error you're getting usually means the firmware doesn't support the media you are using.
The Philips you are using are made by Moser Baer - so so.

If you have a Packard Bell pc then 2.58 is the latest firmware. If not I think 2.1B is newer. Here's a link

You're best bet may be to just switch the media to Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

    You're welcome
Hopefully that's the latest one if this isn't a Packard Bell pc.

Give it a go and let us know.
