Hello people, fist let me apologise for what im about to do. I've only just joined this forum and its for the selfish reason that my DVd burner has simply stopped working all of a sudden and this is pretty much the only thing i haven't tried to get it working.

Im using neuro professional to try and mount some .iso of a few DVDs i burnt using DVD shrink. Im using memorex DVD-R x16 4.7gig/120min media on my NEC+/-6500A drive.

Until now its always worked fine. Ive tried a couple of different brands of DVD and two or three programs too and everytime I try to burn it comes up with this message:

    Hi Subhuman
What other discs have you tried? The memorex you're using are made by CMC - not very good at all.
The illegal disc error usually means that the discs are not supported by the firmware. The firmware on this drive is from 2004 so newer media may cause it problems.
You might want to try some patched firmware from liggy & dees - 2 newer ones for this drive are 2.58 or 2.81 which are newer than the 2.40 version.

Have you tried another 8x media or say Verbatim on this drive? That's another option.

    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS
Roxio and Nero don't always play well. So if still failing uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool.

edit: link for liggy & dees

    Cheers.

Ok so ill go get me some better DVDs tomorrow and give them a whirl to see if its just crappy media thats jacked it up.

i downloaded the patch, though i must admit i have no idea what to do with this .bin file now (computor novice)

thought i had best let yo know that it still burns audio CDs perfectly fine... could this idicate anything?

You can try different media 1st and see how that goes.
Since the firmware is from 2004 newer 16x media may be hit or miss on the drive.
If you can find 8x media that would be better.

The patched firmware maywork. You'll need binflash for the bin file. Heere's a guide w/ a link to download - link

CD's still burning - CD's have been around much longer then DVD's so usuallythe firmware has much more support for all the different manufacturers.
