    Hi lancenpam
    Here's a few suggestions:
    Nero version: 6.3.0.2
Update Nero - package 1 only from this link

    CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
Turn DMA back on for this drive. Here's a guide

    Error reading data
You're getting read errors from the source disc - too many and the drive can keep going down a notch in transfer mode (DMA) until it hits the bottom - the slow PIO mode.
Check the back of the disc for dirt, scratches smudges etc. Try cleaning it off with something non abrasive.

    DVD-Copy on the fly
Turn off copy on the fly. Let Nero try and rip the dvd 1st - it will store the files temporarily then start the burn. If it can't read it - turning this off saves a disc being wasted.

Well, I spoke too soon, I was able to do one successful burn now it's back to burn fails. Tried 8x and 4x. How do you select Burn on the Fly? Here's the latest log file. Thanks again !

Dang! Okay here's a couple of suggestions.
This time you're getting a No seek complete error.
Try cleaning off the lens of the drive with either a dvd lens cleaner or blowing some canned air in it.

Try another burning program. Here's a good free one - ImgBurn.
For non iso files use the build mode to add the files. Looks like you're burning an iso in this log so use write mode in ImgBurn.

Taiyo Yuden is good media but might want to try another brand like Vebratim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell to rule out media.

The burn on the fly option is available when you're doing a copy to copy. In Express it's called quick copy.

Give those a go and let us know.

Oh and anything change pc wise since you were last able to burn?

Now I've really done it! The drive won't open now. I blew air in, closed it and now it is stuck....good grief,it's just not meant to be. haha

I have in the past used IMGburn and never had luck with it...I always get an I/O error. Nothing has changed on the pc that i know of except my bum drive...ugh

It may just be time to put this one to rest and pick up a new one.

Good ones to look at are LiteOn and Pioneer.

You can try uninstalling it in device - rebooting and letting windows do it's thing and reinstall - see if that makes a diff.
Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager.
Click on the + next to dvd/cd drives then right on the drive and pick uninstall. Reboot.

The latest excitement here in kansas city ---

Since the DVD-RW drive was not showing up in device manager, I thought perhaps there was a loose connection. I took the media center apart, pulled out the disk drive that is having problems, cleaned out the dust, put the drive back in, making sure all is plugged in tight. I opened device manager and wah la... both drives are listed and in the correct form - one dvd - rw and one cd-rom. After jumping up and down and feeling very proud that i accomplished such a geeky task, all by myself, I was ready to roll, yet again. The drive has no power now... the light will not come on in the front, the power light and the drive will not open. How can it not have power yet be listed on device manager as active and in the property section say "the device is working properly"??? Thanks again for any advice you can provide :)

The cleaning may just be what it needed.

The drive is showing up cause it's hooked up to the ide cable - but it sounds like you forgot to connect it back to the power connector from the power supply :)
So open it back up and connect this part.

    edit - typo :)

Well,I sure hope i'm not that crazy to miss a power cable. I carefully checked what was plugged into the drive before I removed it. There was a white plastic 4 pin connector ( I think thats power, right)? And the long connector that attaches to the strip of ribbon. Are those the only 2 connectors?

Yep those would be the 2. I would still check it just to make sure it's in there securely or even try another power connector just to be sure.
I've missed putting them in securely before :)

The latest... I swapped power supply pins between the 2 drives. The power cable that is in the faulty drive works just fine in my other drive. The good drives cable did not work in my faulty drive. So must be the drive...I dont suppose you can fix anything within a drive huh? need to replace it?

For the price of a new one it's really not worth it trying to fix anything inside imho.

You can switching the drives - put the dvd burner on the slave connection and the ASUS on the master connection.
Switch the jumper pins on the back to match the setting on the ide cable - master to master etc. If this is a Dell though they prefer cable select and are probably already set to that.
