i have a hp pavillion 533 w/ win xp, i turned it on the other day and it would not boot up, it went to a black screen and said os not found, i am not a comuter pro by no means, i dont have the recovery disc, they are still on the hard drive, i got a black boot cd that when it boots up it says win 98 and goes into dos, is their anything i can do through dos to fix this machine?, i called hp, my computer is out of warranty, and they said that they dont make the recovery disks for my model, the only set they had was in french, please help, thanks
You'll need your WinXP disc. Once in Windows setup access the Repair option and It'll take you into Dos. I think you can repair the O/S in there.
i dont have my original xp disc, i bought a xp home/pro recovery disc off ebay, but it is not a boot disc, so when you put it in it still says os not found, i can go into dos with that black boot cd, but i dont know much about dos to go from there, anything that i can try going that route?, thanks
