Everytime I write a dvd+r i try selecting a speed of 2x or 2.4 x. When it starts to burn it defaults back to the media's max record speed. I have a lite on 1633S DVD-rw drive running windows XP home. For burning software i have the nero 6.3.1.17 software that came with it. I have tried sevral brands of media and it happens with all. I also tried just burning with DVD Decrypter, I et it at one and when it statred to burn I noticed it defaulted back to the medias speed of 4x. Any suggestions would be gladly appreaciated.

the cause is probaly down to the media you are using
i have different types of media, each when used are set to x2 speed
some stick to that, some default back to x4
all depends on what the actual disc is capable of burning at
in other words "not capable of burning at "x2"

Hursty is correct since Media codes will let your burner go up to their rate if you let them.

I would also look at Nero settings, just before you are going to pull the trigger and click "Burn". It gives me an option that I can select what burn speed to use which I change/lower, since my media can show as high as 16X. I select 8X and then click "Burn".
