I am trying to find the best way to convert some home movies on Hi-8 tapes to a DVD format that I can play on my Toshiba DVD player. Is there any software out there that can do this? I don't have a DVD recorder but I do have a CD burner. Please help. Thanks.

Well, I'm not an expert but I figure any DVD player can play video CD too so if your videos are not too long you could burn them to Mpeg1/2 vcd. I personally use TMPGEnc(www.tmpgenc.net) to convert video files to mpg format and VCDEasy(www.vcdeasy.org) to burn video cds. They play quite alright on my sony so it'd probably work on your DVD player, too.

Cool, I'll try that first. I did hear some new things by reading around different sites but thanks for the help.
