I backed up Hitch using AnyDVD & CloneDVD2. Worked perfect! Be sure you have the latest version of AnyDVD. Noteworthy: For some reason this movie causes Nero Recode to hang up.

Hitch as tons and tons of garbage files on the disk. They take up space and do nothing what so ever for the movie. I would strongly suggest that you use DVD Shrink 3.2 and eliminate everything that doesn't contribute to the final product.

When you LOOK a the disk with DVD Shrink, you will understand what I'm talking about.

Hitch is an easy backup if you clean it up first...

I just backed it up last night, no problems. I used Decyptor to back to the hard drive, then shink to burn the image. Worked like a charm, and both programs are FREE. Let me know if you need anymore help.

"Hitch" just came out yesterday. What's the hurry on backing it up? Do you think the dvd that you just purchased is going to deteriorate and become unplayable within the week? Every week, same thing. There will be a new release (sometimes it hasn't been released which seems fishy to me), and someone will need help. Get some patience and try some things on your own.

oh god, i only commented today how it was odd we hadn't read any threads "can't burn <insert any movie name here>". Ah well. Try just DVD Decrypter on it's own. plus try the other suggestions.

I thought this site was to help people who have questions, not just break in with your two cents on why you don't think they should ask it. Unpredictable things can happen at any time, so what does it hurt to back-up a disk right when you get it? I understand that it gets tidious to answer new release questions all the time, but aren't you a newbie as well? The focus of this site is supposed to be helping, I think your focus should be the same here.

Some members have kids...so the answer to that question is.. YES

Some movies are released at different times,in different parts of the world.

I did that move with dvd shrink and AnyDvd,movie only, no compression, then burned it with nero.

I never said they shouldn't ask it. I merely inquired what's the hurry? You're right that this site is for people with questions. However, too many people fail to use the search function. For example, all of these threads are from people who can't back up "Hitch." Twelve threads on a movie that came out one day ago in the U.S.

Also, you're using my "newbie" label almost as a criticism. I look before I post and thus don't post frequently. I listen to people like bbmayo and usually can figure it out with a little trial and error. I don't need immediate help on a one day old release. You note the tediousness of all the new release questions. It will happen again next week. Same old story. I predict atleast 10 threads for Miss Congeniality and Coach Carter next week. Is that really necessary? I can already predict the answer. Try the latest dvd decryptor and anydvd.

    Jim,

As I understand it, you think theres a variance across all of the continents in dvd release dates. I think I will respectfully disagree with you about this. DVDs may be released on Monday (instead of Tuesday) in Europe, but that doesn't explain the threads a week ahead of the North American release dates. I would wager those people are backing up dvds that aren't supposed to be on the market. I doubt that a North American movie is going to be released legitimately in a foreign market, weeks in front of the North American release dates.

Also, while I understand your protect it from kid's comment, (I have a young daughter myself) why do you need to back up the movie immediately? Do you think kids are watching "Hitch?" They may be if they're a bit older, but then why haven't they learned how to take care of a dvd?

Please don't take offense to what I said. I, too, look around a lot and, therefore, don't post much. I just think that your comment was not helpful and not needed. Newbies with questions can feel somewhat vulnerable posting, and when they get responses like that, it's no wonder why only about 0.05% of the site are regulars. If you're annoyed with the question, don't reply. It does no one any good to have comments like that thrown at them. Can't we all just get along? :)

The question was asked, 'Why do some folks backup their DVD movies (and Music disks) on the same day they buy them?" The answer is fairly simple in my case. I don't even watch my original disks before I back them up. I have absolutely no desire to get one single scratch on the new disks, and I seriously frown on dust and finger prints as well. They cost WAY too much to allow them to be damaged by daily use - and - they ARE an investment.

Hours after I purchase a new DVD, I backup the "Movie Only" on to a DVD-R disk that I have already applied a "Scanned Copy" of the original disk label. Yes, I burn the disks WITH the label attached. Never have had a lick of trouble doing that (at any speed) with my NEC burners.. After the backup, the new disks are re-sealed in their original packaging and put away for safe keeping. We watch the backup - AND - if for some reason - IT - becomes un-playable - we still have the original disk, in pristine condition, to make another backup from.

The reasons people do things is seldom our business. Some folks try to make other peoples affairs "their own business" and that's a REAL bad habit to get into. The fact that someone asks me for help with a task or project is usually enough for me. If it's within my power to assist, I'll do it... But, then again, that's just me.. I tend to keep my nose out of other folks lives as much as humanly possible; unless, of course, I am clearly INVITED to join in or ask questions.

I need help...When I put Hitch in DVD Shrink, it gets to 13% analized, then the screen goes black and says Data Error (cylic redundancy check). What does that mean? Is that just the DVD itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
