I have a Sony VAIO 680 laptop with a SONY DVD RW DW-U50A drive. Used Nero 5.5 with success with DVD+ in the past. Now I can not seem to burn a DVD- or for that matter a DVD+ without a write error. I have tried all I know to try and followed the Nero web site and utilities. New install. New purchase & upgrade to latest 6.3.1.25. No matter what I try I can not seem to create a simple data DVD. I am not a computer whiz but have a fair amount of familiarity with Win XP and can find my way around reasonable well. I would sure appreciate any help ASAP. I need to back up my data so I can send in the laptop for service. Here is my latest toaster report! You are getting a basic write error, and at 1x speeds which is not a good sign. I can only recommend making sure you have the latest firmware for your recorder, and try more than one brand of Media. Are you even able to write to CD-R media? If not, you recorder may need to have its head cleaned, or serviced. You should also try another software package, just to rule Nero out as the cause. Though if you are not able to write to CD-R media either, it's very likely a recorder issue. Regards, Craig Ahead Software USA
Craig Thanks for your suggestions. CDR 100% OK, With Nero see report below. I updated the firmware to what Sony says is the latest just now version "f". Testing DVD-R now with Windows xp utility. Hi Lacee, That's a very good sign. Have you tried another brand of DVD-R media, other than Princo? And if you have, what brands have you tested? Regards, Craig Ahead Software USA
I just completed a burn and now 50% completed verfied all looks good on a USB/Firwire Sony DVD drive same model as the laptop but only an external drive. I will purchase diffrent DVD now and try that next hour. I tried using Drag N Drop program that came with the Sony and it errored due to a reported file name being to long. I will shorten the file name / path and try again with new media as well.
Craig, By the way thanks for your help, I have had a support email into Nero for a couple days and no response, so I really do appreciate your quick reply. I see you are from Nero. Thanks again, Lacee
