I am a newbie teaching myself how to legally make a copy of a dvd. I have downloaded and read the dvd, but when I go to ISO write it says it is not a compatible media. Any idea what the problem is????

OK, be nice, I said I was a newbie and teaching myself!! I am using dvd decrypter. I didn't download it, I guess it is correctly termed "reading" it from the purchased dvd. When I go to write it, it comes up with the incompatible media message.

    :)

What other programs are you using? DVD Decrypter alone will not work. Also, what is the make and model of your burner? And like bbmayo asked, what is the brand and format of the media your using?

The burner is my Dell laptop, the media is dvd+r and dvd-r. I think this is what you are asking.

And, what other program besides DVD Decrypter are you using?

    This is the last time...

When you have a problem it is much easier for people to help you out if you can give as much info as possible..
Type of media? Brand/ + or -/R or RW
    Computer brand and model?
Burner Brand and model? If you dont know check your manual or visit the computer manufacturer's website.
What type of file you are working with? AVI/MPEG/VOB/ISO ect..
    Operating system?
Software loaded? Mainly DVD or CD related

Please help us to help you :)

there are many ways, but try this. Open you control panel -> click system -> hardware tab -> device manager -> click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives

list what it says. What movie is it?

Ok, I think I have it all. I am using a Dell Inspiron 5150 with Windows XP. All I can find on the burner is Compact Disc DVD, I assume this is the brand. I have Sonic Record Now version 7 and DVD Decrypter for software. I hae used Philips DVD+R and Memorex DVD-R and neither worked. The files are read in ISO. I have read several of the guides on DVD Decrypter and everything is great until I get to the point where I am ready to burn. That is when I get the incompatible media message. I hope this helps.

    Ummm .... no :)

When I do that this is what it says under DVD/CD-ROM drives:

AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom device <--- my virtual drive
    LITE-ON DVD SOHD-167T <--- my DVD-ROM
PLEXTOR DVDR PX-716A <--- my burner

And what movie are you trying to backup

Last, have you ever been able to burn a dvd? ie. a data dvd?

Well disregard my last question. You only have a CD writer/DVD ROM combo. You can read cds and dvds, but can only burn cds.
