I own a BenQ DVD DD DW1640 and have never upgraded it with new firmware, I use Shrink & Decrypter combined to rip & write my backups. My media is Taiyo Yuden 4.7GB 4X DVD's.

Lately it seems as if the entire process is taking forever! I have my Decrpypter write settings at 4x right now. Can I increase the write speed to 16x with no loss in quality,

What can I do to improve the speed?

    Thank you, JR Denn

How long is it taking you to burn at 4x now?

Even if you could overburn the 4x TY's at 16x I won't recommend it.

Update the firmware - best to keep it up to date. The latest is BSRB. Here's a link.

Check and make sure the drives are in DMA mode and PIO mode. DMA should be listed for current transfer mode and transfer mode. Here's a guide
