I've got an AVI video, but I am uncertain what codec it requires. I have the K-Lite Codec pack and Media player Classic. But, MPC says it is unable to render the file.

Is the info on what codec is required typically in the file?

    GSpot
Drag the AVI on to GSpot and try to see which codec it needs and if it's installed on the PC.
In the example, the codec is XviD and it's installed.
You can also try to play the file using the buttons.
