Does anybody know how m$ managed to flash millions of drives of all different brands & types of firmware with no dvd key, all over the world via the internet.

It would be great if we could flash our drives without pulling them apart just plug in the enet cable & flash.
I,m not a fan of m$ but you haft to admit it was well done.

Why ban anybody from live & lose revenue when all they have to do is re-flash your box from a compulsory update from live, take the update or don,t play live.

If they do this, unless you can flash your own box a lot of people will just give up & go legit because the cost of flashing will outway the benefit.
    just my opinion

I'd say there is something keeping MS from doing it. Else they would have flashed drives via an update a long time ago. They only did it now to make all drives compatible with the new disc format. Even if they did flash drives with every update, most people would learn to adapt and flash their boxes themselves. Legit players would also have to put up with big regular updates. People could also get around it by putting in another dvd drive. MS won't outdo C4eva this gen and maybe not even next gen.

a regular update is no problem for legit players; they won't notice anything. they only see a small update if they connect to live, after which it installs and they can continue to play as usual

the non-legit players will face problems, since they have to reflash there drives continuously. a lot of people cannot do it themselves, and pay people to do it. these people will certainly not give the dvd key etc. to the customers, because flashing it yourself is quite easy IF you have these keys. flashing is a thriving business, so these people will protect their business by not giving keys to their customers. since most drives out there are lite-ons that need the mra hack after flashing, people will still need to pay others to update. some new lite-ons have write protected drives, so that is a good move from MS. not sure how they can reflash their drive without replacing the locked chip.
phat samsung and hitachis are becoming obsolete, since most of these consoles have all died. benq drives are easy to flash yourself, but will become obsolete to in a few years.

so if MS does a fw check in all future dash updates, and flashes back any cfw back to ofw (and banning the xbox in the process), this will be a good move by MS to fight against piracy. the ap2.5 checks that can change with each dash update is also a good find i believe.
    but time will tell only.

btw; MS does not 'know' all the keys, it just reflashes the drive and uses the dvd key that is in the drive itself. for this reason, if you have all zero's as key before the update, after the update it is still zero's.

M$ updated the firmware on the drive,it can be done with out the keys, they modified the firmware to be compatible with the new disc format, this is the same proccess as when you update your bluray player to play the new movies, download the new firmware install it to the player, and now you can watch new movies,,

So if the new drives are write protected does this mean that there will be no more flash back to stock over live. Surely if they are write once only they wont be able to update them again.

Also they didn't reflash "multiple drives of multiple brands", they just reflashed LiteOn drives. I did two updates with the new dashboard, one on a console with a Benq drive spoofed as a Samsung drive and unstealth firmware on it and one untouched LiteOn. The update on the LiteOn console took longer as on the Benq console, also my Benq stayed the way it was, the LiteOn now has a different firmware making it quite hard to get the key (going to test PMT next week).

Spoofed drives only will boot ORIG games on the new dash. Backups will not play.

then you don't have a spoofed drive on the new dash. Orig games will boot but backups will give you "play DVD" if you have a spoofed drive on the current dash.

Hey, I know what I have, it's a Benq spoofed as a Samsung (flashed and spoofed myself with iXtreme 1.51 unstealth) on the new dashboard (downloaded from xbox.com).

I thought someone said the new update takes 10 minutes? Anyway, people can always buy the equipment and extract the keys themselves if they think they'll have to flash often or people offering such services lower their prices because they know they'll do no business otherwise. Else they will finish providing such services forcing people who want to flash to do it themselves. Why have MS waited until now to flash drives via updates? Clearly there is something keeping them from doing it or they would have done this to combat piracy long ago. Turning on and off AP2.5 on every game will slow things down but it will not stop piracy simply because people will always know when there's an update and information will always be available online detailing what games have been effected. Also, most games don't have huge replay value. A lot of people who finish a game, won't come back to it and thus will not want to get the game again anyway. MS can certainly make things awkward but unless they start updating every few days, piracy will be as it always was, unstoppable.
