I have a file that Media Info describes as below:

    Bit rate : 757 Kbps
    Writing application : MEncoder 2:1.0~rc1-0ubuntu9
    Writing library : MPlayer
    Encoded_Original : DVD ripped by acidrip.sf.net

    Video #0
    Codec : MPEG-4V
    Codec/Family : MPEG-4
    Codec settings/Packe : No
    Codec settings/BVOP : No
    Codec settings/QPel : No
    Codec settings/GMC : 0
    Codec settings/Matri : Default

Auto GK can't convert it to Divx or anything else. What is wrong?

Looks like SP MPEG-4. What is the container? Should only be a matter of remuxing; at least the video. MPEG-4 is MPEG-4.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is an *.avi file. What is remuxing?

If it is an avi, then you basically already have a DivX file. Either the apps that you are using don't like mencoders avi or you don't have a decoder configured to the 4cc used. Remuxing basically means copying the contained streams to a new container.
