What is it that prevents people from burning a true 1:1 copy of their games copy protection and all.?
Is there something done physically to the discs than can't be recreated by store bought dvd burners?
Why is it that the discs I create can only be read by the flashed firmware?

I realize these are basic questions But I've always wondered how cd/dvd copy protection works. Thanks.

With PS2 and Xbox games the info telling the consoles to boot the games is written in the area burners can't write to and that's the problem. I assume it's the same for 360 games. That area is used for disc ID info with burnable media. That's how you know what disc is what with DVDinfoPro or IMGburn. The flashed firmware makes the drive boot the burned game even though boot command isn't there.

Plus only the Samsung 162 dvd drive can read the 360's file structure properly.
