I'm new the PS3 modding scene. I did some research and it seem like the easiest way is to use CFW to get added features. There are also USB "mod chip" key like the PS3 Break, PS3Key, etc.. What are the differences between the two? Seem like both will allow you to play back up games and run homebrew.

Would you guys recommend using mod chip or just use CFW?

    Thanks for any helps.

If you get a ps3 break usb everytime you start the system you will need to do the boot sequence to jailbreak the system whereas with cfw you just turn on and eveerything is ready to go.

Is the ps3 break permanent? meaning that if i boot up without it my system is "original" again?

It is nice to switch back and forth between jailbreak and "non" jailbreak.

PS3 Break only works with 3.41...so don't think that you can switch back and forth between PSN and Jailbreak because you can't.

CFW has more features, works with 3.55, and is free...plus, it does not waste a USB port.

Anyway, if you want a USB option, the PS3 break is not a good one...the Cobra is king of USB jailbreaking right now, and the Teensy 2.0 is the all-time king of USB jailbreaking because everything is written by users, so the support for it just keeps going.

BTW, none of these options is a mod chip; modchips are physical devices installed inside of systems. There is a modchip of sorts for the PS3, but it is extremely difficult to install, and it is really only useful if you are a developer.
