    1. Dvd decrypter 3.1.4.0 rips in 12-15 minutes using scsi toshiba dvd rom. Read rate varies from 4.7x on up to 10x on commercial disks, but usually slow at 2-3x when re reading a previously copied disk; maybe because I'm making an iso file from it??
    2. Dvd2one 1.0.0 (it works on the all but 1 of my movies, seems relatively quick I guess, so if it aint broke I dont 'fix' it) for 2 hour movies, about 25 minutes. Longest was In Harms Way, but the longest I remember was about 38 minutes.
    3. RecordNowMax 4.1 using upgraded 4.5 engine, using a Pioneer 104, 1.33 firmware, and cheap Princo 1x burned at 2x, also about 30 minutes each copy. No problems burning while using THIS computer for other things (hint: don't minimize any windows, shrink em manually because and let them sit 1"x1" on the corner of the desktop until you need them again; this keeps the whole program in memory; while if you minimize to task bar windows swaps all the stuff back into the hard drive's swap file. I think just shrinking the window uses less CPU time and allows me to browse, edit, play music while burning without disturbing the burn process. Oh, and I have to keep most of Musicmatch Jukebox off the edge of the screen because for some reason other programs over 'wipe' it on the desktop while it is running. I haven't had that problem with other programs). Only 2 coasters now since January burning this way. BUT..the copies won't play on my friends old Apex dvd player, I think a 1100 or such. Plays fine on the Apex 3201 though, and they play on everything else.
    Intel P4Northwood 1.8
    Intel 845WN motherboard, 1.5 G crucial memory
All scsi except the pioneer burner, adaptec cards IBM scsi hard drives.

Wondering if anyone else used the firmware to upgrade their Pioneer 106D?
Newbie here. Just want to make sure it works
    good with no glitches.

    Upgrade your pioneer firmware at:

    http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/pioneer_firmware_upgrades.htm

Ok, I installed the firmware for my pioneer 106 and the Shrink rip time is still 52 min for 2 hr flick. I am thinking it might be that Oriphus is using DVD Decrypter for his awesome speed but thats doesnt shrink it to 4.38 Gig.?

Actually i am using DVD Shrink. The speed i indicated was for ripping, compression is variable, dependent on the amount needed.

Just as a reference to the difference from Win98SE to XP Let me share my experience
    Win98SE
    PIII800 - 512 Ram - Asus MB - custom built
In creating a VCD disc with the same program takes 200 minutes
    Win XP
    P4 2.26Gh - 1G ddr ram - HP Pavilion
    Same VCD creation 80 minutes
It confirms that newer can be faster
I can DVD Decrypt - DVD Shrink - Nero Burn - DVD-9 discs in 45 minutes

    Dvd Decrypter - 15mins avg
    Dvd2one - 10mins avg
    Recordnow DX - 14mins avg

    2.4Ghz P4 (with hyper thread s..t)
    1Gb 400 DDR Ram
    120Gb HD
    60Gb HD
    Geforce 128 DDR Graphics...
    Pioneer 106 for burning only....
    Crappy LG Dvdrom......

BTW Dvd2one is a resource eater, and a good graphics card can do wonders......I was using a 32Mb, but the 128 increased performance!!!!!!
