I have a LG DVD recorder RH1999H with a 250GB hard drive. A few years ago, the DVD writer broke, it was replaced but I lost all the movies on the HD.

The same thing is happening now- we can record to the hard drive, but cannot copy/write to a DVD.The recorder needs to be repaired, but I am worried that I might lose all the movies on the HD again.

Is there any way of saving/copy the movies that is currently on the HD?

The DVD recorder does not have a USB port.

I would try this: Go online and find out what type of hard drive does your DVR use. (i.e. ATA or SATA) Get a external USB enclosure for said drive. Remove drive from DVR and install in enclosure. Plug enclosure into computer and copy movies to your computers HD. Reinstall drive in DVR and get the DVR's burner repaired.
