Anyone have an idea why dvd xcopy would stop writing to my nec 1300a all of a sudden? I burnt 2 backups and then on third no dice. Then tried burning one that I did before before, didnt work.Ran check on drive came up fine. Read Scuba Petes review on shrink decided to try it. Two other problems now.Would'nt burn, message said my nero wouldnt burn because I have microsoft service pack 2. So I downloaded nero updates 1 & 2. It started to write then quit after 20 seconds or so. Thought xcopy might work now that nero updated nope again. If I ever shrink what button do you hit to burn after you edit movie? Then do you have to keep creating folders each time a burn fails? Help!

So did this all happen after you installed SP2?

If this happened after you installed SP2, remove it.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875350

It's not really all that important. Then just follow the guide/s for shrink. I belive you only need one folder for Shrink. It will act a temp folder and the info will be deleted every time you create a new backup.

I'm using SP2 here, with the Nero updates. No problem. So by itself, I don't see how SP2 could be the problem.

On the problem with dvd xcopy, you really need to be more specific than just "no dice" and "nope again."

At least with Nero, you tell us that it "started to write then quit after 20 seconds or so." But are really sure it was writing? Got a nero log file? Did it just CTD (crash to the desktop), abend with an error message, or what?

How can we help you when we really don't know what is happening?

Details, details, details. Specifics, specifics, specifics.

Yes xcopy worked after ms service pac2 was installed I think I should give up on xcopy and try to get shrink to work. Less confusing for me. Shrink starts to record to dvd-r (read light is on and drive is running) It just stops and says error
,then the error box disappears.I believe it stops just before it actually starts the write of the backup& after the disk prep but I dont know that for sure.I know the backup is on my hard drive. I cant find an error log. The drives check out with both microsoft and nero. They are set on zone 1. One thing though it says no aspi installed. I am using fugifilm dvd+ &- media it used to work fine
Very sorry I double posted. It won't happen again.

Well ya need to tell us the error. And an aspi layer doesn't hurt.

    "11:08:07 PM #25 CDR -1046 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1764
    Illegal disc"

Says 'illegal disc'. But if it isn't, my bet it's still SP2.

I was thinking that too (DRM = Microsuck's digital rights mgmt?) If it's just a commercial DVD you're ripping with DVDXCopy, you might want to fiddle around with the burning drivers (use Gear Networks drivers setting in Options instead of Nero). And use a rewritable until you figure out the problem.

How do you find options in dvdxcopy? I see in prefences a nero button but no gear networks. Did net search for gear networks & couldnt find. this whole problem thing is new to me as x copy has worked perfect for many backups. Would switch to shrink as most of you like it better but it has same error with disk.

Turns out not end of story. Dogbomb recomended I use dvd-rw while i was figuring out whats wrong which I did. Thought I would try x copy again and it worked.
Then I looked again at my disks and they were 8x in a box marked 4x.(fujifilm).Went and got correct fujifilm 4x and were back to normal. My nec nd1300a has 1.06 firmware. Does anyone know if there is an upgrade? will it then recognise 8x disks?
