I'm having trouble. I think I tried to burn a file much larger than what a DVD will hold and something happened. I can't find the files any longer and whe I try and send another picture to the CD drive I get a message: Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file. What do you want Windows to do. I almost feels like the DVD burner isn't even there anymore. Any suggestions.

If the pictures were on your hard disk, they are still there unless you deleted them yourself or specified for them to be deleted after burning (which is probably unlikely).

Does the DVD drive show up in My Computer?

Sounds like you could be using the Windows integrated burning software which is crap. If you are using it then i would suggest getting different burning software like Nero to burn your projects/files with.

If you use the Windows drag and drop option to your drive make sure you have cleared the Temporary files that are waiting to be burned on your drive. It could be hung up some how waiting for you to burn the files you already have in the Temp folder.

Below is an image of what you need to do to clear the files that are waiting to be burned...

If you are using a different program to burn these files then let us know what program you are using.

Thank you for the reply. My DVD drive isn't even showing up on my computer. It recognizes it as a CD drive. I have a frined that told me I should replace the DVD burner, which I did, but I am still getting the same thing.

Yes, I've figured it out that the windows burner is crap, but I simply want to save my digital pictures.

    Your thoughts are very helpful!

DVD drives sometimes show up as CD drives in Windows, yet still work. It just depends. Have you tried using Device Manager to uninstall the drive? Windows will automatically reinstall it upon restart.

    Right click on My Computer.
Click the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button.
    Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right click on the name of the burner and select Uninstall.
    Confirm the uninstall if asked.
    Restart the system.

Go back to an earlier restore point and see if things work there.

Thanks for all of the help. I tried a new DVD burner, didn't work. Tries reinstalling the new burner, didn't work. Tried reinstalling Windows, didn't work. I've given up on trying to figure this one out. No big deal, I can still save my pics using Nero.

    Thanks
