I can't ping my xbox (can't talk to it via anything else either). I have connected my computer to the xbox using the following technique. -- xbox with matrix mod chip + evox D.6ef bios + evolutionX dashboard v1.8.3285 -- PC with single RealTek NIC card (running windows 98SE + FlashFXP) -- cross over cable -- xbox with static ip address = 192.168.0.3 and subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 -- pc nic with static ip address = 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 I'm not sure about the gateway value to use for my pc nic card. Due to conflicting advice, I've tried: -- none -- 192.168.0.1 -- 255.255.255.0 (*turned out to be a bad idea*) Xbox menu "Settings/Info" plus "Network" heading indicates: -- type = static -- ip = 192.168.0.3 -- line status = 100/Full Duplex -- ... -- subnetmask = 255.255.255.0 -- default gateway = 192.168.0.1 The xbox line status changes when I reboot my pc as one might expect (eg: no link). I was assuming that my pc ip address must = xbox default gateway address. Is this a correct assumption, a bad idea, or doesn't matter ? Although my xbox was modded about 12 months ago, I've had to make and boot from a CD-RW containing evolutionX because the "Settings/Info" menu was not available previously. Any ideas greatly appreciated. END.
Here is my setup: Computer: IP: 192.168.0.1 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway:None Xbox: IP: 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1
PROBLEM SOLVED (at last)! After trying all sorts of options I discovered that i had installed a copy of microsoft personal web server in the distant past. This program had ftp settings which were set to off. I uninstalled this program and i can now ping and ftp the xbox.
