I dont know much about game backups and etc. But ive been using that fliptop thing with the swap magic cd. I just put the swap magic cd in the fliptop and then the burned disk. But anyways im getting star ocean 3 from gamefly here in a few days. I dont plan to burn it...it sounds to complicated. But my question is star ocean is a 2 disk set. When I have to switch from disk one to disk two during gameplay in the fliptop will it work. I mean will it just sit there or will it load to disk two automatically like its supposed too. I hope someone can help. Thank you.

Should still work... but why not use HDLoader? I just got mine copy today and it works fine on HD. Install Disc 1 and 2, when Disc 2 come, they will tell you to save before you change disc 2, after you save, reset and put the disc 2 dvd game in. Play and save your game somewhere in the game and reset, put the HD loader and play from there.

Wait... why is star ocean 3 TWO discs then? Isn't the game dual layered double discs? HDLoader can't read DVD9s properly, won't there be missing scenes and audio on the hard drive if you back up star ocean 3?

I'm not certain on this but I believe Square/Enix chose to go with the 2 DVD5 set over DVD9 due to issues with the DVD9 Jap version not working properly on many older PS2's due to the systems having problems reading dual-layer media. If you're machine had trouble playing many DVD movies it was likely affected by this problem.

Okay, yeah, that's what some people assume until they read the instruction manual. There's actually a page in it describing how to "change discs mid game". Many people on the gamefaqs boards are also talking about the thin gameplay and heavy empahsis on story all on the second disc, so looks like the second disc isn't all bonus features afterall.

And yes, I finally went into the disc and toyed around with everything. SO3 is 2 single layered DVDs. My best guess is that because of the whole "mass return" of Xenosaga and Champions of Norrath, many older PS2s were unable to play the game, so they ditched the format. Makes sense for some people, annoying for many who don't want to deal with an addition disc on a system capable of sidelining the whole 4 disc FFIX royale system all over again...
