I have a samsung drive (according to the comparison chart online: 2 wholes in the tray)

    [bold]Wont play:[/bold]
    dvd-r = dvd-iso data discs
    dvd-rw = dvd-iso data discs
dvd+r = dvd-iso data discs/dvd-video (Straight copy from an actual movie)

Mediums used for above: TDK, Fuji, Verbatim

    [bold]Will Play:[/bold]
dvd-r = dvd-video (Straight copy from an actual movie)
dvd+rw = dvd-iso data disc / dvd-video (Straight copy from an actual movie)

So basically, the type of drive I'm looking for in the following priority:

    [bold]Primary formats I need:[/bold]
    dvd+r
    dvd+rw

    [bold]Secondary[/bold]
    dvd-r
    dvd-rw

    3rd:
    cd-r
    cd-rw

According to my understanding of why DVD-R only worked because of the DVD-video format. I figured the same theory would work for DVD+R, if it was a straight burn from a movie, but that's not the case.

People keep listing the drive S 616T to be the superior must have, that plays all formats. When I see a listing in ebay it doesnt include +R or +RW anywhere.

So which Samsung drive do I have? the 616 or the 605?

and which drive (based on the priority lists above) will I need to replace my current drive?

I do realize there's a hit and miss with formats, but based on the mediums I've tried, I realize my drive completely rules out the formats I need. Please help.

You should have the 605. Have you even got your xbox modded?

its a software Exploit... with the eVox bios. the console is v.1.5 (right before they came out with 1.6 which i believe 1.6 is the green special edition xbox halo pack).

Please recommend a drive for me to use, based on the priority list above (if you have a comment, that is).

    Thanks for the reply.

So the above media that doesnt play is games or dvd's or both?

You could be burning it wrong and that is why it isnt reading.

I thought that was the case, but its the same burner..
i've tried dvd-r's, they work for Games and Movies, but not data.

DVD+R's dont work at all (unless I have to specify another burning method with +R differently than -R)

They work in a regular DVD player, just not XBOX.

side note: does xbox DVD Dongle free software support PAL dvds (region free)? that was one of the 3 i tested.
