i have an ibm thinkpad and i have been having trouble loading my os. i have tried to use hirens boot cd to repartition the drive so i can reinstall but then it says no hard disc detected. so it seems that i have a hard drive failure. i have data on the disc that i would like to keep. is there anything that i can do to fix this?

Try getting an external case and hooking it up to another computer. you could also run checkdisk from the windows boot cd.
