I'm not familiar with the firmware version you have on your burner. Illegal disk usually means the firmware doesn't recognize the disk. The 2510 is an older burner so if you're using newer media, that may be the problem.

Where did you find the firmware for your 2510 or is this the original firmware? Did this burner come with your system? If so, what system?

The Roxio CDRAL driver is also installed on your system. It has been known to cause conflicts in some configurations. I don't think it's causing the problem here, however.

NEC burners loves them some Verbatim disks. Try to find some 8X Verbatims and see if they'll burn.

Some burners just give up the ghost earlier for one format over the other.

    Thanks for the reply laddyboy....

Where did i get my firmware you ask, i simply copied my drive name into google NEC DVD RW ND-2510A firmware and found a link to here http://tdb.rpc1.org/#ND2510A and loaded both 2.05 binaries and DOS flasher and 2.15 Binaries and DOS flasher. But none of these solved the problem.

Yes this is the original burner thats built into my computer

    Here is my system info....

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
    Packard Bell Computer
    AMD Athlon(tm)XP 3000+
    2.09GHz, 1.00GB of RAM

Ive had my computer about 2 years but only burned about 3 discs but this was music.

Here is a picture you may find usefull.... NEC DVD RW ND-2510A INFODont know why there are 2 red X's next to the DVD - RAM

    Many thanks!!!!

    Hi again.

Nero is showing your burner firmware as version 2.54, a version that doesn't appear in the link to the DB firmware you cited that I can see. That's why I was curious about the where you got that firmware.

The red X's just mean your burner doesn't support DVD RAM disks.

I agree with that screwy firmware version. Here's a link for the NEC 2510,but you have to watch out for which correct version you need:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837

You'll see NEC/Fujitsu/IOdata/Mad Dog/and Dell. The non NEC fw updates would be the Rebadges. Similar drive, but different chip sets.

You'll need the original firmware version if possible,to find out which NEC 2510A that you have.

    [bold]Disc Manufacturer: TTH02 -[/bold]

These are -16x TDK and I see this code in a lot of nero logs. Drives have a harder time with this media.

Why swich to dash when you said the plus format was ok?

Being an older drive, you'll probably have to find some of the older 8x speed media. By not issueing firmware updates, manufacturers are telling us that we have to upgrade to the newer burners to be able to burn the faster 16x and higher media.

Definitely take them back for some slower +8x media if possible.Don't throw away the ones you tried to burn. By the looks of your log, those discs that gave the no disc error-no actual burn took place so they should be ok. Look at the bottom of the disc to make sure there's no discoloration from the burn.
