Ok I've seen a lot of problems like this and have read thru many of them but no help unfortunately. I've got the latest nero and updated firmware. The only thing I can think that may be wrong is my burner has died or the disc is not supported even though I have used them before. Oh yeah and it also has the same problem when i burn a cd. So here is my log of a failed dvd burn. Only thing I left out was the serials. Hi ten42 Could be the burner - a bit on the older side and you're getting errors burning both cd's & dvd's. Here's a newer firmware to try - 1.0b. Even if the disc isn't supported by the firmware may not fail - the drive will use a default write pattern. Just doesn't always work. That's usually what the illegal disc means. Try the firmware update. You might also want to try different media. The ones you're using know are made by Ritek - not bad just may not be that compatible with the drive. Try Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. It may not be a bad idea though to pick up a new drive too. Not that at all anymore.
thanks for the quick response i'll pick up a new drive today i was thinking of doing so anyways. You guys are great
Is there any brand or model dvd burner that you guys recommend? I've always had nec. I dont need Dual layer just a regular burner but i would like to move up to 16x speed. If you got any suggestions I would love to hear them before I buy one.
You're welcome ten42 NEC are good and almost all drives now support dual layer. Doesn't add to the price at all. It's pretty standard. I'd be leary of buying a dvd drive if it didn't support it Other ones to look at would be LiteOn or Pioneer. Let's us know how that turns out.
thanks guys i got a new sony burner and it works like a charm. The nec drive was around 3 years old so i'm surprised it lasted as long as it was.
