    Hi Rgiles
The whole log would be better but let's check these 1st.
Illegal disc can be caused my the media you are using and/or firmware not up to date.

So what brand of discs are you using - like Sony +R 16x?
Firmware version? You can check it in Nero. In SmartStart go to Tools (or Toolkit in Nero 6)>InfoTool>drive tab.
There's a field there that lists the firmware version.

    edit: spelling

Ok the log still shows the firmware as 203D - NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A> Version: 203D so update to 203E.

See if that does the trick.

The -RW discs you are using are made by MCC - usually good stuff.
If the firmware update doesn't do it then try different discs.
Look for made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell or Verbatim - or + R format.

Give that a go and let us know.

    Not a problem Rgiles
Hopefully the firmware update will do the trick.

Reboot after you update it for it to take effect.

You can edit the posts you did in error too if you like - just click on the pencil & paper looking thing on the right.

    Dang :(

Looks like you uninstalled Nero 7 and went back to the original version of Nero 6.
Probably not a problem - but the version of 7 you were using is better than the original of Nero 6.

Try one other burning program - it's free - ImgBurn just to rule out Nero (don't think it is but can't hurt to try another program to be sure).
Use the build mode to burn non image file.

If that doesn't do then pick up some new discs - these -RW's you have may just not be compatible w/ this drive.

    Keep us posted.

Sure you can try that one too.

ImgBurn is pretty trouble & conflict free (+ a great burning app) so that's why I like to recommend that one.

It says cannot write medium - incompatible format.

Lol, this is really annoying don't you think, but the sooner i get it working the better!

Yeah burn failures can be annoying :)

Okay the next thing is pick up some new discs. Doesn't have to be RW - can get either the -R or +R's. See post above for ones to look for.
    Process of elimination.

Has this drive ever successfully burned DVD's?
If it has what changed since you last able to burn?

    RitekG05's are decent discs.

Pop a blank in your drive. Then in Nero go to Tools (ToolKit for Nero 6)>cd-dvd speed. Click on the disc tab - the manufacturer will be there and it should also list all the supported burn speeds.
For these it should list up to 8x.

It is definitely a RitecG05 but it doesn't come up with the speed capabilities, its just left blank.

Do you know of any programs that could find out?

    Any other ideas?

Geez this is a picky drive.
The write speeds should be listed if the disc is fully supported by the firmware.
    Here's a pic to illustrate.

Have you tried burning w/ these?
