I've seen several of these failed installs lately...each one, a bad motherboard. Same symptoms...though most just quit at the "setup is copying files" percentage screen.

Anything created by the hand of a human is bound to fail...it's all a matter of how and when.

But yeah....sometimes they just give up the ghost..could have been from a manufacturing fault in the process, bad silicon, or a board that seemed to pass the quality checklist but may not have if checked again.

It could have been a number of things.

What socket type Intel processor are you using? There are several really good LGA775 boards...but if you've never removed/replaced an LGA775 it's not like other processors and has it's own unique way of having to be placed in the socket to prevent damage to the motherboard.

ASUS, Gigabyte, DFI make some really good boards for gaming.

Google for a program called CPU-Z...run it and it will tell you all you need to know.
