My brothers 4th gen 20gb Ipod shows the sad face icon when he starts it up and wont show up in itunes or as a connected device in windows. I tried resetting it but that did nothing. I imagine I must wipe it or whatever but how can I do this if it doesn't show up on his PC? What can I do to get it to show up? EDIT: I go it into disk mode but it only shows up on his PC as a removable drive briefly because shortly after I plug it in the ipod goes from disk storage mode to the sad face error. If I don't plug it in it stays in disk storage mode. thanks in advance
The sad face icon usually means that there is an internal problem with the harddrive. Take it to your nearest Apple store and see how much it will cost to fix it, or if your under warranty still, you can request a new iPod at apple.com.
