I downloaded the latest patch for the ps3 and it included upscaling regular dvd's.

Hotchef- What hdmi cable are you using? Poor quality cable could cause a quality loss.

my cable is one of the best.

    QED QUNEX HDMI-SR SILVER

i am just comparing the pausing and clarity between a PS3 and a standalone samsung bluray.

i think the samsung was clearer on pausing

    2. The PS3 does not upconvert regular DVD's to 720p or 1080i/p. However, this ability may come with a future software update.[/quote]

    This has been fixed ;)

uhmmmmm, after all, with the 1.8 upgrade, PS3 is one of the best all around players available:

    Upscaling 2o generation (DVD,VCD,SVCD)
Good performance on 3o generation (blu-ray)
Streaming media from network too !

That's very good now, so I don't have to boot linux to do it :)

What's missing ? more games, internet radio, universal remote compatibility :(

Id personally say, as i dont have either, if you have a ps3 use it. No need to splash out on something youve already got!

How would you go about installing 7.1 audio to the PS3? One of the messages above said it's not compaitible out of the box for 5.1, but the specs say it can support 7.1, so does the PS3 support 7.1 without this reciever.
