Well, I bought a cd/dvd burner not too long ago. I believe less than 2 months ago. It's a Sony DVD RW Dru-830A drive. $80 bucks so I'm guessing it's a good drive. It comes with Nero 7. I used it shortly after I installed everything and it seemed to work fine and normal. I like to burn a lot of data dvds to keep record of files and the burning time on Nero takes about 15 minutes. But recently, I've been installing a lot of dvd creating programs that is able to burn dvds also. Such as dvdsanta and so forth. BUT, a few days ago I tried to burn another dvd data disc with Nero 7 but the burning process is taking way too long. The dvd disc is 4.7 gb. The cd burning is fine but dvd burning takes an incredible amount of time. The first time it took about 1 hour and 30 mins. I kept testing it and each time I burned something it'd take longer than before. 3 hours, 4 hours, and even 6 hours. Just for a dvd data disc! At first I thought the drive was malfunctioning in some type of way but the dvd burner works just fine on other programs. I've read that other programs can interefere with Nero. I've erased all dvd burning related programs and any possible files, but the problem is still occuring. Is it Nero or just the drive in general? I'm tired of ruining expensive dvd+r discs. Any idea on what the problem is?
You may need to check if your DMA is on, heres a guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
Hmm I did what the site instructed but the DMA seems to be on before I did anything. The problem still remains. When I used another dvd burning program, it burned fine but when I use Nero the proccess is taking real long. From the noises I hear from the drive, it seems to be burning then stopping then burning and stopping through out the whole proccess. Usually I'd hear a loud humming sound which meant it was burning. But at the moment, the sound is going off and on and the burning proccess is takes forever.

I've aborted some burnings but left the rest alone which took really long. I really appreciate your help by the way. =) I've noticed that when I do burn, the proccess "creates a book type" I've never seen that before and tried to remove that setting but couldn't. Could that be the problem? Because my sister's laptop doesn't seem to have that setting when burning with Nero 7.
This version is full of bugs, uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install this version 7.5.9.0 from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/ Latest firmware is SS23 from here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/830FWSS23/830A_SS23.zip You have a fair bit of memory in use, dont multitask while burning These are horrible discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in japan) You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml
Aww. I did everything you said. But it's still doing. I'm sure it's not Nero because after all that it's still doing the same thing. I uninstalled Nero and installed Roxio to see if I'd get a different outcome but it's still doing that samething so yeah. Something is wrong with my drive I suppose or some file in my computer is causing it do so. As soon as I can, I'm going to reformat my computer or install the drive into another computer to see if it does the same. Gahh I have no warranty for this drive and 30 days has passed. Thanks a lot for you help though. Much appreciated.
Okay this drive is able to burn at max 18x speed. The disc is able to burn at max 16x speed. But it's burning at 0.15x speed. This is all relative for dvd burning. CD burning is just fine.
@saw792, You're a little behind the times, this is what he is NOW getting, that is an OLD log prior to making recommended changes. BTW: Most members dont like txt talk
oops, i thought he meant that was one of his logs from when it wasn't working properly. Would making those changes change the speed that the log is displaying even thought they take the same time to burn?
Ehh? This he you guys speak of is a she. Haha. Well the log is actually current to when it was messing up but I doubt it's burning to the actual speed it's set to. I set nero to burn at that spead but it didn't necessarily do so. I got 0.15x from Roxio. It tells me how much mb is getting burned, the target speed which is 16x, and current burn speed which is 0.15x. Get my drift? It's no where near the target speed.
