    I just downloaded a .iso file and the poster didn't mention if it was PAL or NTSC. Well of course it turned out to be PAL and my DVD player won't play it. Is there a way to easily convert an iso from one format to the other?

    How?

    As I posted, I didn't create the .iso it was downloaded as a PAL. I haven't seen a setting in DVD Decrypter that always me to change the .iso from PAL to NTSC.

    The .iso has multiple languages on it, so it isn't just the main movie.

    hi

    load the iso into dvd shrink - then re-author the movie keeping main movie only, then load to avi2dvd and make it ntsc

    You probably know this but if you click on Standard it gives you your choice of PAL or NTSC.

    @Rotary,

    Thanks, I was hoping that there was a short-cut without having to rip and encode it.

    It may be easier for me to just download the movie and make my own .iso using avi2dvd.

    @Gwendolin

    I went to VSO's website and I think the software you were recommending is for if you have a movie file, not an .ISO. Please let me know if I'm wrong? It seemed to me that the software was just an alternative to AVI2DVD.

    hi

    avi2dvd wont take an iso i dont think?

    but you can load an iso to dvd shrink and output as folders of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS

    and avi2dvd will take it then! BUT!!!!!!! only main movie only!!! not menus and extras type discs...

    but????

    try useing vob blanker i think it can change from pal to ntsc?

    Hello,

    Thank you all so much for the very useful information contained in this thread. I have figured out how to use VobBlocker to change the format from PAL to NTSC. The video quality is much better than you get by ripping the DVD video to AVI or something. The only thing I seem to be having an issue with is the video on the menus. This appears to have remained in PAL format. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Theres a few different methods you can use to convert PAL to NTSC.

    1) you can download DVfilm Atlantis if you can find a working crack for it.

    2)follow the guide here http://www.johnisme.com/avi1.shtml

    3)Use Blaze Media Pro

    4)Use IfoEdit and perform the 'Patch' method. Instructions here:
    http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=221928
    (To use this method with a .img or .iso you will have to mount
    with Daemon tools, and then pull off the Video_TS folder.

    5)Use the Divx to DVD method other ppl in the tread have mentioned. guide here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/220673

    6) Spend the money and get a standalone video converter

    7) just dont d/l PAL :p

    The process i use is this

    I load the Img or Iso with Daemon, Rip it with DVD Decrypter to remove any region coding, load it up with VobBlanker and strip all the menus and other crap that doesnt need to be there. Convert the movie Vobs to NTSC 4:3. load it up in Nero Recode to make sure it all looks good and then burn it using Nero 6.

    Hooray!!!
    It looks like thie following thread tells you the trick, using IfoEdit: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=221928. Thanks so much, ArCaine! The qaulity is better than the ripping first techniques, and you get the menus too. I'm going to see if I can bump up the quality of the main movie even more by using VobBlanker to convert that first.
    I have Iron Maiden's "Rock In Rio" disc done; now it's on to two from Nightwish. Rock on! \m/

    Glad to help :) also keep in mind that if your DVD player can handle PAL and you have a newer TV theres a good chance you wont need to convert.

    For instance i just downloaded Batman Beings PAL released by SCREAM. didnt want to convert using vob blanker and nero recode so i mounted the IMG with Daemon Tools, and i just used nero to copy from my mounted drive to my burner. played perfectly in my player and on my tv, had menus and everything. didnt even have to tell my dvd player it was PAL.

    i'd suggest you buy urself a good quality RW and try that out. doenst hurt to try new methods, just try and use a RW if you do so your not wasting media :)
