I have seen several NTL broadband boxes on sale on ebay. Can you just plug these in and get broadband via your NTL coaxial cable?

Or is there some device similar to a dbox that will allow you to do this?

    No..

It's not possible, due to the cable providers necessity to activate the modem in use from it's MAC address for one thing. Also, you have to have an active account, otherwise no broadband will be sent to your CATV feed..

I have a NTL subsription with digital TV, I heard a service engineer just comes out with a broadband box and rings back the office to activate it. Can this box now be used in any house with NTL.
When you say "active account" do you mean just NTL or do they somehow send you a broadband signal.

I thought some years back NTL would have to put a new cable into your house, but I thought now it was just a box. Once activated can they deactivate it?

If you can just take the box to somebody elses house then is it possible an activated NTL UK box would work in Ireland.

When you say box, are you now referring to the television cable box, or still the broadband modem?

Sorry but your post is somewhat confusing..

Also, and I really don't mean to be anal here mate, but this is the PVR section and if it turns into a whole bunch of threads about how to rip off NTL we could see the section being closed..

    I've sent you a PM..

I meant a broadband "box" (modem).

Sorry for putting the topic in this section. I suppose it belongs in "other" but thought it is a similar enough idea and that posters here would know. Thanks for your help.

You can clone them and use them with someone elses MAC address. There are various forums that specialise in this area and lots of programmes to let you do it, try Google.
