Is there a way to tell if a dvd has been burned/ripped by playing back the original disc, or by looking at the bottom of the disc?

This has absolutely no business being in the Advanced Forum, but here goes.....

The tried and true method for checking if a disc has been burned is to play it or open it in windows explorer. If you look at the bottom of a burned disc there should be a very noticable difference towards the outside edge of the disc where the burn stopped with the burned portion being much darker than the unburned portion.

Out of curiosity, why do you ask?
