Considering all the technical advantages to DVD+R. And also considering that DVD+R is more compatible with stand alone players, is there any reason to even buy DVD-R media.

Actually -R is more compatible w/ players than +R (if +R isn't booktyped to DVD-Rom) but with most new players they support both.

Now dual layer is a different story - +R came out before -R dual layer and is more compatible then -R dual layer media om players. Though players can still be picky on +R dual layer - booktyping those to DVD-Rom helps.

I use both formats for single layer and +R for dual layer.
I use a lot of printable media and -R is cheaper in this format :)

i use the DVD dash R being they are less expensive online (Taiyo Yuden). theres really NO technical advantages to using the DVD plus R as you mention. and as binkie7 said the DVD dash R are more compatable if you aren't booktyping. so yes there is a good reason to buy the DVD dash R media
