thanks for your help I've done some investigation and found that the card is a fake all be it an extremely good one, i compared it to the other cards i own and visually it was just about perfect. Fortunately my friend bought one at the same time from the same dealer and so we checked the serial numbers and unsurprisingly they were the same confirming they were fake. There is a very good guide on e-bay that clearly points out the things to look for to identify the snides from legitimate.

i know mine is a fake because its much slower and after emulate a higher firmware with device hook (this doesn't work in 1.5) in the psp menu i go to a memory stick icon press triangle ,then information then i see the details and it says " unknown" ,i have a real 1gb memory stick and this one says "supported"

You guessed it, but from a respectable seller so if it turns out to be fake I can send it back for a refund, but before I do that I would like to be 100% sure it’s fake so would like to learn how to achieve this please?

on ur psp w/ the card in it, goto photo/music then go down to the Memory Stick Option, press Triangle, then press Show information.

    what's it say after MAGIC-GATE?

So what does it actually mean to have a fake card? I have read up on SD fakes sometime ago and understand that some fakes double the capacity, ie you think your getting a 1GB card but in fact its a 256KB card using compression software to appear as 1GB! The data saved would work fine up until the 256KB point but after that it was a gamble as to whether the rest of the data would remain. Is this the same for duo cards?

Just tested my 1GB “ProDuo High Speed” card too, again "unknown". I have been using this in my phone for the last year or so, watching 30 min vids and they have been fine, file transfer has also been fast.

some fake cards will work just as well as the real thing, some will die within hours. Its a lottery. But generally fake cards stop working in time and run slower.

I had a fake 2GB, it was fine for about 5 months then died. My official San Disk 2GB has never had a problem.

Just checked my 2GB Sandisk Mirco M2 card and that says "supported", I take it that means its real?

Can anyone comment on whether the fake duo's use compression software as mentioned in my previous post? Wouldn't want to loss those all important saves!

ebay is really dodgy but if you look up the buyers guide on there, it gives you a good idea what to look for. If you purchased by paypal than you are also legally covered to get your money back as the dealer hasn't sold you what they were advertising.
