First off go to the link below and download the newest firmware (1.08) for the R4

    http://www.r4ds.com/soft/13-en.htm

Once you get the updated kernel you will need to extract the files.

When you extract the file you will have a folder named English-1.08

Now double click on that folder and place all the files that are below...

    _system_
    moonshl
    _DS_MENU.DAT
    _DS_MSHL.nds

onto your MicroSD card root directory. Do this by connecting your MicroSD card to a USB port (you will need a reader to connect the MicroSD card to the computer)

Now transfer your DS games to the root directory of the MicroSD card.

After you transfer your games to the MicroSD card disconnect the MicroSD card place it in the R4 cart and place the R4 cart into the DS. Now start your DS. To play a game all you need to do is choose the Game icon and it will bring you to the game selection screen.

Example of what the MicroSD card root directory should look like...

    _system_
    moonshl
    _DS_MENU.DAT
    _DS_MSHL.nds
    DSGame1.nds
    DSgame2.nds
    DSgame3.nds etc. etc.

Moonshell is used to play the media and movies. That is the second option on the R4 menu (Multimedia).

Just place the audio or video file in the root directory of the moonshl folder. Then start the multimedia icon and choose whatever audio or video file you want.

You can go to the website below to download R4 themes for your DS. You will place the skins in the THEME folder which is under the _system_ folder.

There are 12 folders when you click on the THEME folder which are for each month of the year. So every month the DS skin will change.

If you find a theme you like download it and then place all files in whatever month folder you want that skin for.

here is the R4 skin site...

    http://www.ndsthemes.com

here is an R4 skinning forum if you want to learn how to make the skins...
