Firstly, it seems a very long time to me. Why not try this instead. Use DVD Shrink <---(Download Here) as this will both rip the DVD and compress it all at once. It allows you to Re-Author also, a very good feature if you want to leave out the Extras, etc... I have just ripped and compressed spiderman in 32 minutes.

What media are you using to burn on to. This could be the problem with compatiblility with the standalone.

Yes your media is possibly partly to blame. 1 hour to burn suggests that your are using 1x write media and it may not be the best if your player can't play it (either that or youve got Nero set to burn at 1 speed)

Also what disc were you burning and how large was it before compression - I suppose if it needed to be compressed by a large ammount this may take longer.

The other thing to check is what else you're doing. If you have other CPU intensive processes running then the compression will obviously take longer!

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, I WILL TRY USING DVDSHRINK TONITE ON SPIDER MAN TO COMPARE.
I AM USING TDK DVD-RW WHICH MAY NOT BE SUPPORTED ON MY STAND ALONE SO WILL TRY OTHER 4 SPEED DISCS TO SEE.
    WILL LET YOU KNOW.

Ok, firstly DVD-RW doesnt write at 4x, not yet anyway (it will with the release of the Pioneer DVR107 in December). Secondly, using RW discs for DVD Back-up is generally not the best idea. If you could get some Ritek G04's or the Datawrite 4x Yellows, you may find an improvement. I would get the G04's over the yellows though.

Trekkie 9 there is a good guide to using dvd shrink on this web site it tells you how to rip a direct copy of the disc, or re author to suit your needs. Then using the software link use one of the svcd programmes to create a film disc, assuming you have a cd burner.
    Good luck.
