    Hiya lads

I am after getting a cheap DVD player in the UK that will play DVD-R's.

I use a Pioneer 105/A05, just wondered if you had any recomendations of which player to get ??

Cheaper the better for me as I have a baby due next week and don't have much cash spare.

    Thanks very much STEVE

Steve, go to ASDA, get yerself a Pacific 1002w, £39.97, bloody bulletproof !Good luck with new arrival, my lad's 5 Sunday coming, time flies, mate. Reason i ever bought DVD player was cos he went thru 2 copies of Toy Story, and 2 copies of Toy Story 2 on video, wore 'em out !!!

Cheers safc_66. Hope he has a nice birthday mate.

I had read about the Pacific 1002w which people had said good things about. I am sure I read somewhere that they can be noisy playing back DVD-R's, is this the case ??

    Thanks :)

Unsure on that one, boss. Can only tell ya that a few mates have 'em, glowing reports all around. Have had occasional 'Noisy Disc Syndrome' in my Mustek V520, can't explain why ! Try it, if it's crap, take it back & get a full, no-hassle refund. Nowt to lose mate ;-)

Hi I can't help but recommend the Yamada/Umax 5520 DVD player Multi region and available from Amazon.co.uk for the VERY reasonable sum of £39.99 delivered! It plays everything with the exception of Avi/Divx! You've just gotta check it out I've had mine for 6 months and no complaints. Rob.(The nickname is my ladyfriends name & she's got the same player & likes it too).

No it is not a brand/make sold in U.K , and that I knew.
Plus it has nothing really to do with region (as he wants to play back up DVD-Rs where region is removed) and more to do with said Apex unit being NTSC if ordered from US & shipped to here (christ knows what the cost of that would be , more than the DVD Player no doubt)
Obviously yes I did , and please do not shout at me again or I will ban you !!!

I have to say I waited ages for the PACIFIC Dvd players to come in, and in the meanwhile bought what I thought was a crappy DVD player for the bedroom from Somerfields for £34.

When the PACIFIC's arrived in Asda I gave the Somerfield DVD player (cant remember the make off hand) to my dad and bought the pacific one.

I have to say the noise it makes playing DVD-R's is incredible!! I dont know whether its because we are watching it in the bedroom and its a bit quieter than the living room but I preferred the Somerfield player. That said, both played everything anyway!
