Looking for the best way to tackle this:

I am a novice when it comes to this stuff, but I am a computer programmer, so I know my way around and all that.

I have tried several programs, including ImToo, SmartRipper, Amigo, and a few others, but I can't seem to rip the VOB files in a high quality, I lose quality no matter what settings I try. So I figure I am doing something wrong or not using the right software.

My goal is to take a DVD, rip certain chapters (video only) and then edit it in vegas 5 (or similar, but I already own vegas 5) so I can use different audio with the video. Then render the whole thing back to a format I can burn to DVD

any suggestions on what to use software and settings wise?

You could try DVD Shrink in the Reauthor mode. It will allow you to rip chapters, segments etc., by using the start and end frame functions.

Guides for DVD Shrink are available at the top of this page.

The quality output of Shrink is very good.

can I rip it in FULL quality (size being no concern for now) using this software?
