backing up my copy of 40 flicks tour & noticed lpcm uses far more memory than AC3 ?? I would have thought 5 channel would have used more. Does this mean the stereo stream is much better quality, as i wished to remove the stereo part to enable the copy to fit on a single disc

LPCM uses more memory because it is uncompressed audio.
AC3 is basically dolby digital compressed.. But you can't tell by the sound. This is the standard for DVD, Digital cable, and Sattelite.

I would. That is the standard for DVD anyway and you can not tell the difference in quality in fact the AC3 probably sounds better being in 5.1ch.
