This is the problem that I have with my m3 perfect:

I have installed nds roms on 1 gb kingston and 1 gb sandisk, they both come up with black screen. I have formatted both cards with different formats such as fat 16 and fat 32, its all the same results.

I am using this guide with different formats

    http://m3wiki.com/index.php?title=Media_Card

The rom am testing is Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow (E)(Legacy).nds. This game did run once on the 1 gb sandisk, however it crashed and then black screen.

All Gba games run fine and tested a few homebrew stuff.

The kit that i have are the following:
    DS lite black
    M3 lite - Boot loader v31 and GM V29, 30 and 31
SD cards 1 gb: kingston and 1 gb sandisk

Mario DS 64 - Normal trimmed works
New Super Mario bros - Normal trimmed, loads nintendo sign and goes two black screens
Mr Driller - Normal & Trimmed work fine. With m3 wiki settings black screen.

I noticed mario ds and mr driller are 16 mb in size and anything larger does not work. The Sd card formatted too fat 16 - cluster 64.

Any games larger 16 mb will not load and gives me black screen

I have also changed my card reader and tested both micro sd card and both freeze and black screen.

    What i can run is:

    GBA roms.
NDS roms only mario ds, mr driller, tetris DS
    Homebrew stuff

perfect.. or professional? i know you said perfect.. but just wanting to make sure you didn't mean professional. If using professional, all games must be run on FAST BOOT (4xDMA) on anything larger than 16MB
