    There seems to be some additional anti-copy protection on SONY DVD's and possibly others. Recent titles that Mac the Ripper had problems opening: "Casino Royale" and "Rocky Balboa."
    This seems to be something new. Mac the Ripper cannot even read these DVD's.
    Are there any DVD back-up solutions for mac users???

    I had the same problem with MTR and Casino Royale, but, I read in another thread, a solution provided by used Kitty66. Here goes;

    On MTR disable ANYTHING that can be disabled, once you do that, it'll take a LONG time to rip, but it gets done. It took me almost 3 hours on a MBP with a 2.33 core2duo, and 3 gb of ram. It takes a long time only becuase there are a lot of bogus files and folders, and MTR needs time to get through it all.

    PS.
    MTR = Mac The Ripper
    MBP = MacBook Pro

    hopefully this'll help.

    How were you able to disable everything?
    My Mac the Ripper won't read most new SONY DVD's at all. It says that the file structure is unreadable. The latest case is "Curse of the Golden Flower."
    I never got a chance to disable anything by clicking on the UOP's button. It was grayed out.
    Any more suggestions?
    Other Mac users must be having the same problems backing up these new DVD's.
    Thanks!

    Well, I just got the latest beta version of MTR after making a donation and tried to burn CURSE OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER which I'm pretty sure is Sony.

    It ripped into a non VIDEO_TS folder and now I don't know how the hell to burn to a dvd that will play in a dvd player because Toast isn't working with that folder well. Here's the error message I got:

    Couldn't complete the last command because of a Mac OS error.

    Result code 208

    You tell me what the hell that means. Is the beta version of MTR not ready for macs yet?

    And while I'm at it...the registration process at the Mac The Ripper forum seems to demand a non Yahoo email. After not being able to register after several attempts, I tried with my isp email (which I never check) and it went through right away. Now I have to make sure I forward any emails to my isp to my Yahoo email so I know if some tries to contact me through pm.

    LMAO!! They actually think people will buy their dvds now? I pay for a dvd that does not play in my player I'm taking it back and trust me the stores will have to accept the return. That means Sony will lose money in the long run when people stop buying the dvds.

    I was just about to buy Casino Royale too. Now I won't.

    >>> sony dvd's don't work on your player? That's impossible. They may not DECRYPT because of copyright protection (aka ARCCOS), but there is no reason why it would not play in your "player"... The reason they have this protection is because too many people don't actually BUY the dvd but rather make illegal copies of them... Ummm unless you're trying to play sony's blu-ray dvds in your DVD player?? Then of course they would not play, but I would hope you know the differences between them...

    on a different note, you're much better of trying to make LEGAL back up copies of sony dvd's by using a PC... there is so much more freeware available that will get rid of all of sony's "nonsense"

    good luck!

    Has anyone had any success using MediaFork or Handbrake on Sony or Lions Gate DVD's?
    I had heard that those would rip anything, but I could not get it to work.
    I am almost positive that I used them correctly, but it looks like they have encrypted against these programs too.
    Is there any solution for mac users?

    In the past I received an error like that when I was trying to burn via Toast a file that was not a "VIDEO_TS". A Mac buddy of mine suggested I change the file name to "VIDEO_TS" also, when I ripped the DVD I was not given an "AUDIO_TS" file either, so I created one by making a new folder and changing its name. I hear that even if the AUDIO_TS file is empty, the DVD player will still need it there to read the disc correctly.... anyway, this all worked for me. I am encountering unreadable discs now, but I think that is because I need a new version of Mac the Ripper. *shrug*

    The newer Sony dvds are in anamorphic widescreen and therefore MTR does not read them. Anyone know how to fix the program to read anamorphic files?? 2.6.6 does not know how and that is the most recent version, to my knowledge. Playing with the preference settings is a crap shoot, as it often ruins the rip and cannot be burned...Otherwise, does anyone know of another excellent program, like MTR, that will? I agree that it is extremely frustrating not to be able to rip these newer discs...

    I have had the same problem. If you have the ability to use a Windows PC (XP)...Do A Torrent Search and Download "Slysoft AIO 061807 by Tigir" It contains a nicely cracked version of AnyDVD as well as other software. I use this software to Rip a "Backup" to my external Hard Drive. Then I take it back to my mac to complete. Works for me....a little more time consuming....but it works.
