I have been given a mac book to fix , and it has got me stumped. The mac book powers on and when the screen comes on a folder appears with a question mark.

After searching google, I found the key required to get into system manager, this does not work. I have also tried this method with an image of Mac O/S and when the DVD is in the drive it just spits it back out.

What would you suggest, a new hard drive for starters , and whats happening with the dvd?

    Thanks

well i can answer this question it's a really long one....

    Here we go!!!

First the question mark is not a dead hard drive but no o.s

Second what iso did you use you need a intel mac os x install image for a macbook the reason the machine spit it out is because you burned it in windows and you can only burn the mac iso in a mac sorry.
