The surface says "Ricoh CD-R TYPE 74". Looks cool. My friend's TDK 32x writes on it at 24x happily. However, my Liteon 32x (LTR-32123S XS0R) refuses to write faster than 12x.

    ATIP: 97m 27s 66f
    Disc Manufacturer: Ricoh Company Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
    Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
    nominal Capacity: 651.86MB (74m 12s 00f / LBA: 333750)

Generally RICOH media is considered one of the best. I personally don't have a Lite-On drive, but I beleive that some of out forum members do, so LiteOn people please comment.

I have to say that really surprises me. My LiteOn 24x will write to my Ricoh 8x-rated media at 24x with no problems whatsoever!

Luckily, I have bought ten only. I will ask another friend to test it with his Ricoh 20x writer. Let's see if there is "remark" CDR in the world ....

My "Ricoh" friends has not reported the result yet but I have tried another thing. I installed the Nero MMC hack and now I am about to burn them at 32x!

Another good news is that CDSpeed reports no single media error on the disks. That's even better than my TY CDRs, which contain about 30 C1 errors on average when burnt at 32x.

My friend tested the CDR in his Ricoh 20x writer in full speed and he ended up with "power calibration error".

That's just the opposite of my Liteon....

With Lite-on's Media Check, I can see what's wrong:

This Disc is designed for Consumer Audio Recorder (Low Speed).
Disc Type, Material = CD-R, Phthalocyanine
    ATIP Lead-in = 97m 27s 66f
    Norminal Capacity = 651.86MB (74m 12s 00f)
    Disc Manufacturer maybe = RICOH
    SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 12X

    Just wondering who's to blame.....
