I've tried 2 backups (From Hell and Event Horizon) with Memorex 4x DVD+R and neither disc will be recognized in my Philips DVD724, PS2 or Apex AD-600A (I get no disc errors). I've read that all three of the above players read +r/rw's without a problem.

Funny thing is that my burner (LG GSA-4040B) won't recognize any data on the disk either! I popped the backup into the drive and fired up DVDShrink and it said that there was no disc in the drive.

I've used no name cheap media that works pretty much flawlessly in the PS2 (about 22 discs) but wanted to use +r's so I could use them in my other DVD players.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

    Im using:
    a) LG GSA-4040B writer
    b) Win XP Pro
    c) DVDShrink 3.1.3 (full backup with DVD Rom book and +r compatibility options checked under Burn options)
    d) Nero 6

    Thanks for any help! Cheers!

Hi. I use those memorex dvd+r's all the time. Love em. They work for me great. I use em for ps2,dvd player(which by the way is a philips dvd726.. which is a version of the model 2 higher than yours). I use dvdxcopy for dvds and recordnow max for ps2. My only suggestion is that maybe try dvdxcopy and see whats happening, but the thing is, since the movie may be bigger than your dvd+r, you may need to use 2 discs instead of one like you would for dvdshrink. Well thats all i can help. But can you answer something for me?.. it is, is dvdshrink make almost dvd quality backups, or does it make a notable change if you have a large dvd movie?? Thanks. Hope i helped. If dvdxcopy does not work, i dont have a clue what the prob is. Sorry.

burned well over 150 dvd+r memorex disc and no problem so far.i have noticed that memorex mainly depends on ricohjpn to manufacture their blank media, all though ive had some memorex manufactured by cmc mag, wich are not bad in my opinion many people would say different but havent had a headache with memorex at all. this is what im using. tdk 420n dvd+r burner, clone dvd & anydvd to burn movies, and dvd decrypter to burn ps2 games. my back up movies play flawless in 8 different stand alone dvd players.

I use them as well, however, I have recently come to the conclusion that they must be burnt at STEADY speed say like 4X or less. I tried burning at just a MAX setting and the speed fluxuated but then my DVD faces looked like tree rings: dark where it went slow, light where it went fast. So now I burn my Memorex DVD+R's at 2.4X, believe it or not in Easy CD Creator 6 (with all updates).

    Plextor PX-708A
    AutoShrinkISO (uses DVD Shrink)

Do you find that +R works better in your DVD players than -R? DVD-R tends to be the most compatible medium to record on in terms of DVD player playback. If the Drive you wrote the disc in cant read it, then something has for sure gone amuck. Firstly, is tehre definitley data on the disc? Even if you havent cloosed the disc, the drive would read it, but not most DVD players.

Strange, but I've been having quite a few unreadable DVDs since I switched to 4X media using both Memorex and TDK. I was perfect with the 2.4X Fuji (except 1 RW). My Sony DVD player usually plays anything, but it was cycling through my Pirates of the C DVD and won't even read my LOTR: 2 Towers DVD, although my PC DVD-ROM plays it.

I've also come to the conclusion that, while utilizing DVD Shrink, I need to custom compress. I have made it my personal rule to try to keep ISO's under 4.35GB's as apparently my player has a bit of trouble reading the outer part of dvd+r's. When I back-up my movies I just back-up the movie itself and no extras therefore I can get the highest compression. So the sweetspots for my burning system would seem to be: Slow steady burning and ISO's under 4.35GB's using AutoShrinkISO, DVD Shrink, & Easy DVD Creator 6, updated.

Slow burning is something that SHOULD be needed, though it can help with problems. I always burn at 4x, and now recently around 6-8x. I use a quality disc to ensure that the burning process is flawless.
