My 1080p mkv files play on my DELL d610 laptop, freezing, with audio going on in MPC (home cinema), but only when subtitles are displayed (internal or external), can not seem to find a rendering configuration settings that won´t freeze the frames once in a while in the video...

tried gom player, vlc, its the same...

    any help appreciated

    Have
Have you tried playing it on a Desktop PC? The specs of your laptop might not be enough to play a big resolution like 1080p.
If i'm not mistaken this is the specs for your laptop Del Latitude D610.
Dell Latitude D610 Review Unit System Specs
    Pentium M 760 (2.00Ghz w/ 533Mhz FSB)
    512MB (2x256) PC3200-DDR2 (400Mhz)
    14.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050 resolution)
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 w/ 64MB dedicated RAM
    Fujitsu 60GB HD (5400RPM)
    8x DVD+/-RW (dual layer)
    Intel Pro 2200 wireless (802.11 b/g)
Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet; Conexant 56K modem
    SigmaTel C-Major audio
Extra AC adapter & extra modular battery
System total was $1940 after shipping & WA state sales tax

I'm no expert in any field, but before i have an old P4 desktop pc and i have trouble playing resolutions of like 720p and 1080p.

I FOUND out that it plays even 720/1080p perfectly but the bit rate has to be bellow 7/8000kb/s...

above that "overlay mixer" says it can not do miracles...

but yesterday there was a x.264 1080p 8900 kb/s encoding of "underworld" (lots of dark frames) made by a russian guy that played beautifully!

So i keep dreaming of the miracle file settings or... MPC settings.
