I have read and searched the forums and by doing this I have found the site www.modchipman.com. I realize that they are safe to buy pre-modded PS2's from. I am asking if it is safe to buy just the DMS3 chip itself. Thank you for your help.

I bought a premod and I bought just the magic 3.1 chips from modchipman I had good luck with both.
I hear the dms is a good chip but you have to be carefull not to let the wires cross each other in routing them to chip or you get a black screen on bootup.some people tape them to motherboard to keep them from moving around after install.
for 60.00 you might want to let them install it for you.

Can they install it for me without me having to purchase an entirely new system?

After looking into it I have decided that I am extremely confident in the skills that are required to attach the modchip. Do I have to worry about the modchip being damaged or "bad" when it gets to me... Were the "bad" chips talked about modchipman's fault or dms3's? Thank you.

Thank you for your help, and the warning. I have looked at the manuals from the DSM3 site and am confident in my ability to properly install the modchip. Just one quick question... which type of wire do you recommend.

Gotcha. PM sent and good luck with the chip.

I use ModChipMan all the time for chips, he is very good.

Most defective DMS3's will just not do anthing at all. The system will work fine, just won't boot any backups or Devolution mode. It acts like it's not there.
